South Dakota State finished off the Cayman Islands Classic with a 20-point victory over the Missouri State Bears on Tuesday afternoon as the Jackrabbits won the third place game 75-55.

South Dakota State closes out Cayman Islands Classic with win over Missouri State

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands – South Dakota State finished off the Cayman Islands Classic with a 20-point victory over the Missouri State Bears on Tuesday afternoon as the Jackrabbits won the third place game 75-55.

SDSU (6-2) won its opening game against Duquesne on Sunday before falling to Boise State on Monday and then beating the Bears on Tuesday.

The Jacks opened the game with a 19-3 run. Missouri State cut the lead 28-24 with 3:52 to play in the first half but SDSU then scored the final eight points of the half to take a 36-24 advantage into halftime.

The Jacks led 50-39 with 12:55 left in the game and then went on a 6-0 run to push the lead to 56-39. The closest it would get the rest of the way was 58-43 as SDSU then went on a 12-3 run to make it 70-46 with 5:07 left. The largest lead of the game came with 2:14 left as the Jacks led 75-50 before the Bears scored the final five points of the game.

SDSU shot 51.9% from the field and was 7-of-20 from three. Oscar Cluff led the way with 20 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Kalen Garry had nine points and Owen Larson and Matthew Mors each had eight points. Joe Sayler had five points and seven rebounds and Stoney Hadnot had seven points. 

Missouri State shot 30.5% from the field and was 9-of-22 from three. The Bears were led by Dez White who had 15 points. Michael Osei-Bonsu had nine points and seven boards. Zaxton King had eight points and Chase Martin had seven points. Jalen Hampton had six points and 11 rebounds.

SDSU out-rebounded MSU 39-32. The Jacks had 13 turnovers and the Bears had 12. SDSU was 7-of-7 at the free throw line and MSU was 10-of-16 at the charity stripe.

The Jacks will return home with a game against Dakota Wesleyan on Dec. 2 before playing at Montana on Dec. 4.
