BROOKINGS — The South Daktoa State men’s basketball team was able to come away with a 90-77 victory during an exhibition game against Black Hills State on Wednesday night.
SDSU jumped out to a 17-2 lead but the Yellow Jackets cut the lead to 30-21 later in the first half. The Jacks would then take a 47-33 lead into halftime.
The Jacks looked like they were going to run away with things early in the second half, but BHSU wouldn’t go away. The Yellow Jackets trailed 65-57 with just under 10 minutes to play and then cut the lead to 76-69 with seven minutes to go.
However, SDSU would flex its muscles down the strech to come away with the 13-point victory.
Washington State tranfer Oscar Cluff showed how he can control a game inside on Wednesday night. The senior center from Austrailia scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebonds which were both team highs. Sophomore guard Kalen Garry had 10 points and eight rebounds.
SDSU has nine players that are either redshirt freshmen or true freshmen. Of that group redshirt freshman Joe Sayler led the way with 18 points. True freshman Jaden Jackson had 11 points. Junior forward Matthew Mors had 12 points.
SDSU will begin the regular season on Monday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls. The Jacks will take on McNeese State in the Field of 68 Classic at 5 p.m. You can watch the game on the Field of 68 YouTube channel.
