South Dakota State posts strong performance at ISU Classic

AMES, IOWA — South Dakota State took home four wins against top teams in the Midwest at the ISU Classic on Saturday afternoon.

The sprinters saw an amazing outing as Brielle Dixon posted a new 60-hurdles program record with a time of 8.28 to win the event. Dixon’s time of 8.28 is currently the top time in the Summit League so far this season.

South Dakota State dominated the men’s 60-meter dash as three Jackrabbits placed in the top five. Jared Wipf led the way with a time of 6.76 to take gold. Evan Henderson placed runner-up with a time of 6.84. Carter Toews rounded out the SDSU crew as he crossed the line at 6.88 to take fourth in the 60-meter finals.

The Jackrabbit sprinter squad continued to impress in the men’s 400-meter. Thailan Hallman clutched first with a time of 48.78, followed by Evan Henderson in second at 48.88. Colton Manock found a top-five finish with a time of 49.21, while Kudra Nzibariza cruised across the line at 49.71 to take sixth.

The distance team had an excellent outing as well. Cody Larson won the 3000-meter race with a time of 8:05.54. Larson’s performance landed him third on the SDSU top 10 all-time list.

On the women’s side, Courtney Stadter clutched bronze with a time of 9:43.06 to become the ninth-fastest 3000-meter performer in program history.

Grace Waage had another stunning performance as her mile time was 0.17 seconds away from breaking the program record. Waage crossed the line at 4:46.32 to take fourth in the event and become the second-fastest mile performer in program history. Jessica Lutmer competed alongside Waage. Lutmer posted a personal record of 4:52.17 to finish seventh out of 40 competitors.

Freshman Lindsey Rotz continues to make her mark in the SDSU all-time list. Rotz became the program’s fifth-fastest 800-meter performer with a time of 2:11.40 to take eighth. Claire Beckman cruised in behind Rotz with a time of 2:11.42 to place ninth.

Sam Castle climbed up the top-10 list from his previous placement at seventh. Castle tied Head Coach DeHaven’s 800-meter time of 1:51.31 to finish 13th and become SDSU’s fourth-fastest performer alongside Coach DeHaven.

Milee Young posted a top-five finish in the weight throw. Young threw a personal record of 59-00.75 (18.03m) to take fifth. Josie Curry competed alongside Young as she finished eighth overall with a mark of 55-02.25 (16.82m).

Hunter Wallster earned a spot in the weight throw invite. Wallster threw a mark of 65-00.50 (19.82m) to finish seventh in the invitational category.

In the open weight throw, Caiden Fredrick won with a mark of 62-11.50 (19.19m). Ryan Hackbart and Ethan Fischer competed as well. Hackbart took fourth with a mark of 58-05.75 (17.82m), while Fischer placed sixth with a throw of 56-11.50 (17.36m).
