VOLGA — The Sioux Valley boys’ basketball team took care of business on Saturday afternoon as the Cossacks beat Tiospaye Topa 66-25.
Sioux Valley jumped out to a 14-0 lead and then led 19-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Cossacks stretched the lead to 35-4 in the second quarter and would take a 42-14 lead into halftime. Sioux Valley led 49-19 at the end of the third and then outscored Tiospaye Topa 17-6 in the final quarter.
The Cossacks shot 45% from the field and were 7-of-22 from three. Sioux Valley was led by Maverick Nelson who had 18 points and five rebounds. Carter Sapp, Braden Danzeisen and Tyrus Schulz all had six points. Sapp also had eight rebounds. Every Cossack that played on Saturday scored.
Tiospaye Topa shot 21.7% from the field and was 3-of-17 from three. Jakolby Rousseau had 10 points to lead them. Andrei Hojas had eight points.
The Cossacks had a 47-16 advantage in rebounds. Sioux Valley had 11 turnovers and Tiospaye Topa had 12. The Cossacks were 5-of-7 at the free throw line.
Sioux Valley is now 9-7 and hosts Deuel on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
