Two SoDak Spurs players to attend national event

Posted

The SoDak Spurs Soccer Club has two players heading to Orlando for an Olympic Devolpment Program event.

SoDak Spurs 2011 Boys player Treysen Lounsbury and 2012 Boys player Raul Mendoza Galvan were invited to attend ODP’s National event this weekend in Orlando.

The boys were chosen to represent the 2011 Boys and 2012 Boys ODP Midwest Regional teams who will compete against East, West and South ODP Regional teams.

This is the second year in a row that a player from the SoDak Spurs SC has been chosen to represent an ODP Midwest Regional team. Last year Isaac Fast attended the national event.

The pathway for players to attend this major event is as follows: Players try out and get selected for their state ODP program SDYSA, then they compete versus other Midwest state ODP programs at ODP Regional ID events. At Regional ODP events scouts will then select the highest-level players for the regional teams that will compete at the national event.

The benefits for players that make it through the various levels are:

  • Exposure to U.S. Youth National Team scouts
  • Exposure to MLS club scouts
  • Exposure to college coaches

“What a great achievement for Trey and Raul,” said Spurs director of coaching Paul O’Brien. “For the club to have players selected two years in a row for this event speaks volumes for the strides our club has made over the last few years and also the dedication the players and coaching staff have shown to helping all this happen. This past year we also had another player, Maddix Archer, be selected for the All-American NCAA soccer team.”

O’Brien added that these four players are examples of what can happen when you play for the SoDak Spurs.

“Trey, Raul, Isaac and Maddix are all great examples for our younger players of how hard work and dedication can really pay off.”
