BROOKINGS — The Brookings Area United Way invites the public to join them on “Giving Tuesday” on Dec. 3 for "coffee for a cause" at Kool Beans Coffee, 225 Main Ave., in Brookings.
Kool Beans Coffee will donate 10% of all in-store sales made that day to help fund the dozens of local programs and non-profits United Way assists throughout the year.
An anonymous donor is also matching all direct individual donations made to the organization at that time.
Giving Tuesday, known statewide as South Dakota Gives, is a national initiative to bring the many non-profits and charities that serve the public to the forefront. Held nationally on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, hundreds of organizations throughout the state will share their story on social media and at special events.
The United Way will utilize funds received to help underwrite more than 50 programs and non-profits in the coming year. Such programs impact one out of every three Brookings Country residents in areas such as health, education, and self-sufficiency.
Donations to be matched can be made via credit or debit card online at www.brookingsunitedway.org or can be dropped off at the office at 908 Hope Drive on Dec. 3. United Way staff will also be at Kool Beans Coffee all day to welcome any donations dropped off.
