BROOKINGS — Vision Brookings continues its support for Teen Challenge of the Dakotas through its grant program, recognizing the significant contributions the organization makes to the Brookings community.

By helping men overcome addiction and transition back into the workforce, TCD not only transforms individual lives but also strengthens the local economy and enhances the quality of life in the area.

TCD’s 14-month residential program serves men aged 18 and older, focusing on recovery, personal growth, and workforce readiness. The first eight months address life-controlling issues and rebuild character through a combination of counseling, mentorship, and work-study.

The final six months prepare participants to re-enter the workforce and develop financial independence. This holistic approach equips participants with the tools they need to become skilled, reliable, and productive members of the community.

In 2024, TCD made a significant impact on the local workforce. A total of 18 full-time workers and 35 part-time workers entered the local workforce through the program, bringing valuable skills, dedication, and resilience to their roles. These individuals have become contributors to local businesses, taxpayers, and engaged community members, showcasing the program’s ripple effect throughout the Brookings area.

“TCD is helping rebuild lives while simultaneously strengthening Brookings,” said Mike Gilmartin, executive director of TCD. “Graduates of our program remain in the community, filling vital workforce needs, supporting local businesses, and serving as examples of resilience and personal growth. This is only possible through partnerships with organizations like Vision Brookings.”

One graduate’s story exemplifies the community impact. Keegan, a 2021 TCD graduate, stayed in Brookings after completing the program to work and remain connected to local support networks. He has since advanced his career by pursuing higher-education in automation controls at Mitchell Technical College while interning at Dakota Pump.

Keegan’s success story highlights the transformative power of TCD’s program.

“TCD equipped me with the tools to be a better man,” Keegan shared while reflecting on his time with TCD and how it has prepared him to contribute meaningfully to the community. TCD’s efforts extend far beyond individual transformation, reducing recidivism rates and filling critical gaps in the workforce. Vision Brookings’ continued support underscores its commitment to initiatives, like bolstering local workforce, that uplift the entire community.
