South Dakota State freshman Zavier Kranz was honored Tuesday as the Kwik Star Summit League Men’s Peak Swimmer of the Week after setting the pace for the Jackrabbits in their final home action of the season.
A Watertown native, Kranz won a combined three individual races in a pair of duals Jan. 17 against St. Cloud State and Jan. 18 versus South Dakota. He claimed the 100-yard freestyle in both duals, clocking a winning time of 46.30 seconds against SCSU, followed by placing first the next day in 46.62 seconds. Kranz added an individual victory in the 200 freestyle (1:42.53) against USD and also saw the anchor leg of the 400 freestyle relay, which posted a pool-record time of 3:05.90 to seal the Jackrabbits’ dual victory.
Against St. Cloud State, Kranz also placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:43.62) and swam on the runner-up 400 medley relay (3:26.17).
Kranz is the first Jackrabbit men’s swimmer to receive the honor this season. SDSU closes out regular season competition Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the Coyote Invite in Sioux Falls.
