Virginia (Ginny) was born on April 6, 1928, to John J. and Carolina (Stoecker) Jundt in McPherson County, South Dakota. Ginny grew up in Leola and graduated from Leola High School in 1946. Ginny married Les Hoffman on July 4, 1950. The couple lived in Leola, SD, for six years before moving to Brookings, SD.
While living in Leola, right out of high school, Ginny was a teacher in a one-room country school. After she and Les married, she transitioned from teaching to working as a teller at the local bank.
Once they moved to Brookings, she was a stay-at-home Mom. She re-entered the workforce in 1973 and was employed at Cole’s Department Store at the Estee Lauder counter. Later she worked at Wink’s Jewelry Store. Ginny was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and then Peace Lutheran Church in Brookings. She faithfully served her church as a Sunday school and confirmation teacher, was an active participant in Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), bible study and choir. Ginny enjoyed quilting, needle work, playing cards, putting together puzzles and coffee with friends.
Survivors include her daughters, Joy (John) Mills and Jane (Paul) Hanusa, her grandchildren Jennifer (Andy) Johnson, Jacob (Tara) Mills, John (Ashton) Hanusa and Tessa Hanusa and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Peace Lutheran Early Childhood Center and School.
Ginny’s family would like to thank the staff at StoneyBrook Suites and the staff in the Oak Neighborhood at The Neighborhoods at Brookview for their exceptional care and compassion.
