Posted

AUSTIN, Texas – South Dakota State linebacker Dalton Cox and offensive lineman Wes Genant were named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I Football Team. Both were first-team selections after receiving second-team recognition a year ago.

A senior from Aberdeen, Cox was selected with a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in entrepreneurial studies and economics. He has started 11 of the team’s 12 games this season and ranks second on the squad with 65 tackles, including 7 1/2 for loss and a sack. Cox has forced and recovered a fumble for the Jackrabbits, who have advanced to the FCS semifinals for the second year in a row.

Genant, a junior from Parkston, also has compiled a 4.0 GPA as a biochemistry major. The team’s starting center in 2018, Genant has helped pave the way for a record-setting Jackrabbit offense that is averaging 44.3 points and 490.8 yards of total offense per game. Genant also has seen action at tackle and guard during his SDSU career.

Selections to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I Football Team are based on a vote conducted among members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). South Dakota State has had at least one football student-athlete honored on the Academic All-America Team every year since 2012 and 12 of the last 13 seasons. Overall, SDSU football student-athletes have received Academic All-America recognition from CoSIDA 40 times since 1974.
