BROOKINGS – The South Dakota State swimming and diving teams split their Senior Day dual with St. Cloud State on Saturday, breaking a longstanding pool record along the way.
The men won 175-125 and the women fell 162-138.
In the final event of the meet, the Jackrabbits’ Alex Kraft, Jared Miller, Cody Watkins and Trever Brenner won the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay in a pool-record time of 7 minutes, 5.21 seconds.
The previous mark of 7:08.13 was set by Northern Colorado in 1982.
The Jackrabbits won 19 events.
On the men’s side, Brenner placed first in the 200 (1:43.12) and 500 (4:47.5) freestyle.
Watkins added wins in the 100 (51.88) and 200 (1:57.11) butterfly.
Wyatt Rumrill was victorious in the 100 (59.54) and 200 (2:11.86) breaststroke.
Henry Skinner, Rumrill, Watkins and Brenner placed first in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:35.
Joseph Weber swept the diving events, earning a score of 316.88 in the 3-meter and 317.7 in the 1-meter.
Mac Johnson won the 50 free (21.99).
For the women, Kristen Davis was tops in the 100 (59.51) and 200 (2:10.99) butterfly.
Richelle Bruyckere won the 200 individual medley (2:14.26) and the 200 freestyle (1:57.57).
Quincee Simonson’s score of 261.68 was tops in the 3-meter dive.
Also winning events were Rori Conners (1,000 free – 10:54.69), Mikayla Beckman (100 breast – 1:08.75) and Emily Pincus (500 free – 5:21.87)
The SDSU women’s team travels to Omaha on Friday for a 5 p.m. dual. Both teams take on South Dakota on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Vermillion.
