BROOKINGS – South Dakota State defeated Mary 185-103 and Augustana 153-127 in a women’s swimming and diving triangular on Friday at the HPER Center Pool.
“Tonight was a very successful night for us,” coach Doug Humphrey told SDSU Sports Information. “We had a lot of breakthrough swims and season best performances. We are not where we want to be quite yet but we took a very big step in the right direction.”
Tiffany Nguyen won two events and was runner-up in a second, while Quincee Simonson swept the dives.
Nguyen was first in the 100-yard backstroke in 1 minute, 1.59 seconds and also took top honors in the 200 IM with a 2:14.45 clocking. She placed second in the 200 backstroke in 2:13.57.
Simonson earned a score of 233.26 in the 3-meter dive and 229.42 in the 1-meter.
Gabby Langerud added a victory in the 50 freestyle in 25.21 seconds.
Kristen Davis was second in both the 100 (59.02) and 200 (2:12.45) butterfly events.
Also placing second were Mikayla Beckman in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.79), Alice Foote in the 100 back (1:02.29), Emily Pincus in the 500 free (5:23.99) and Ashley Theobald in the 200 IM (2:16.91).
Foote, Beckman, Davis and Richelle Bruyckere were second in the 400-yard medley relay (4:05.3), while Davis, Daniela Santillan Lahud, Pincus and Bruyckere matched that finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:06.16).
The Jackrabbits (4-2) play host to Iowa State today at noon.
