BROOKINGS – The state on Thursday reported 2,584 new COVID-19 cases and 10 new deaths in South Dakota.
One hundred thirty-seven of the new cases have been reported in Brookings County.
Brookings County cases have risen to 6,741 total cases (83 new confirmed and 54 new probable): 5,627 of those people have recovered (10 new) with 1,073 active cases (up by 127) and 41 deaths (no change). A total of 184 people in the county have been hospitalized at some point (two new), the state reported.
The Brookings hospital has six COVID-19 occupied hospital beds, according to the South Dakota Department of Health website. The county is in the “high” community spread category.
The number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose to 200,496 (1,934 new confirmed and 650 new probable) as of midday Thursday, according to the SDDOH.
Of the statewide cases, 24,796 are classified as active (up by 2,053 from Wednesday). As of Thursday, 173,156 people have recovered (521 new), 9,381 South Dakotans have been hospitalized at some point (38 new), 343 people are currently hospitalized (up by seven) for transmission-based precautions, and 2,544 people with COVID have died (10 new).
The new deaths, one woman and nine men, are being reported in Bon Homme (2), Brown, Hughes, Lake (2), Minnehaha (2), Pennington and Sanborn counties. The age ranges of the deceased are two 50-59 years, three 60-69 years, three 70-79 years and two 80 years or older.
The SDDOH website reported midday Thursday that 1,114,742 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 501,568 people in South Dakota, as reported to the S.D. Immunization Information System.
In Brookings County, 44,032 vaccine doses have been administered to 19,717 people, the SDDOH website reports.
The SDDOH reports 68.6% of the state population age 5 and older has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine from the state or federal allocation, 56.3% have completed their vaccination series, and 28.4% have received a booster dose.
