20th St. S. work to resume

Posted

BROOKINGS – The 20th Street South Reconstruction Project between Main Avenue South and Rio Grande Avenue is tentatively scheduled to resume construction activities on Monday, March 30, depending on weather conditions.

The work for this year will be constructed in approximately three phases as shown on the map above. The crews anticipate they will start with the Rhonda Road phase, then construct the Esther Heights phase, and finally the Valley View phase. The phasing may be changed based on construction schedule and weather conditions.

Signs will be installed along the detour routes to alert traffic. Officials say 20th Street South is scheduled to be opened to traffic during the week of March 30. Traffic may be limited on Rhonda Road during the first phase of work.

The crews will also install sidewalk along the south side of 20th Street South and complete seeding from the 2019 phase.  All phases of the project are scheduled to be completed and reopened by October 2020.

Check the following link on the City of Brookings website for project and detour updates: www.cityofbrookings.org/221/Street-Projects.

“We would like to remind the public to be cautious when driving or walking through the project area, especially around work areas under construction,” says a City of Brookings press release. “We appreciate everyone’s patience during the project and we are looking forward to the reconstructed 20th Street South roadway.”

Questions may be directed to the Cory Mackendanz at 320-295-6967, project inspector, or the City Engineering Department at 692-6629.
