BROOKINGS – The state on Monday reported 528 new COVID-19 cases and four new deaths in South Dakota.

Twenty-seven of the new cases have been reported in Brookings County.

Brookings County cases have risen to 4,660 total cases (21 new confirmed and six new probable): 4,400 of those people have recovered (12 new) with 223 active cases (up by 15) and 37 deaths (no change). A total of 142 people in the county have been hospitalized at some point (no change), the state reported.

The Brookings hospital has no COVID-19 occupied hospital beds, according to the South Dakota Department of Health website. The county is in the “high” community spread category.

The number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose to 137,300 (407 new confirmed and 121 new probable) as of midday Monday, according to the SDDOH.

Of the statewide cases, 7,226 are classified as active (up by 194 from Friday). As of Monday, 127,986 people have recovered (330 new), 7,032 South Dakotans have been hospitalized at some point (12 new), 197 people are currently hospitalized (down by six) for transmission-based precautions, and 2,088 people with COVID have died (four new).

The new deaths are among two women and two men. The age ranges of the deceased are two 50-59 years, one 70-79 years and one in the 80-plus years category.

The SDDOH website reported midday Monday that 764,439 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 411,998 people in South Dakota, as reported to the S.D. Immunization Information System.

In Brookings County, 30,186 vaccine doses have been administered to 16,423 people, the SDDOH website reports. As of Monday, 46.8% of the total county population has received at least one vaccine dose, and 55.1% of those 12 years and older in Brookings County have received at least one vaccine dose.

The SDDOH reports 62.9% of the state population age 12 and older has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine from the state or federal allocation, and 57.2% of the state’s 12-and-older population has completed its vaccination series.
