BROOKINGS – Watertown won both the boys’ and girls’ divisions in a track and field dual against the Bobcats on Tuesday at the BHS Sports Complex.

Arrows sweep duals from Bobcats

BROOKINGS – Watertown won both the boys’ and girls’ divisions in a track and field dual against the Bobcats on Tuesday at the BHS Sports Complex.

The Arrows scored 98 points to Brookings’ 42 on the boys’ side while the Watertown girls edged the ‘Cats, 79-66.

The Bobcat girls won four individual track events, including 1-2 finishes in three of them, and added a pair of top finishes in the field events.

Madison Gray turned in a 59.68-second run in the 400 while Megan Gilk placed third in 1 minute, 6.65 seconds.

Ellie Abraham and Brooke Wika crossed in respective times of 2:20.52 and 2:33.96 in the 800, as Ainsley Powers (5:46.02) and Bastienne Baggett (5:46.24) dueled in the 1,600 for the top spot.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Amanda Kees won in 50.78 seconds while Abby Mathiason placed second in 52.17.

Clarissa Miller won the triple jump with a mark of 32 feet, 3 inches and Amanda Schulte threw the discus 117-2 for first. Schulte added a third-place finish in the shot (31-10) while Kelsey Phelps went 31-3 for third in the triple jump.

Sydney Maher and Grace Eggebrecht finished second and third in the 100 in respective times of 12.90 and 13.27, as Kailee Bartels (16.15) and Ellie Hegdahl (16.51) took second and third in the 100 hurdles. Bartels added a third-place leap of 14-7 1/4 in the long jump.

The Bobcats girls also won three relays – the 4x100 (52.56), 4x200 (1:50.51) and 4x400 (4:14.07).

Individually, the Bobcat boys won three track events and two field events.

Reece Weber and Greg Opdahl finished 1-2 in the 400 in respective times of 54.59 and 57.02.

Nick Rudnik led a sweep in the 1,600 with a winning time of 5:10.33. Marshall Stearns was second in 5:27.99 while Lorenzo Brusca crossed in 5:54.94 for third.

Oscar Kavanagh (11:11.40) and Charlie Wang (11:16.11) placed first and second in the 3,200 as the 4x800 relay placed first in 8:58.67.

Devin Coughlin went 40 feet, 3 1/2 inches to win the triple jump while Dillon Jensen added a pair of third-place finishes – 147-5 in the discus and 43-1 1/4 in the shot.

Brookings is host to Aberdeen Central, Sioux Falls Lincoln and Madison in a quadrangular Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
