BROOKINGS – The Brookings Arts Council will start taking reservations for tickets to U.S. poet laureate Joy Harjo’s December appearance in Brookings at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
To reserve tickets for this free event, head to the Brookings Arts Council website, brookingsartscouncil.org, and follow the tab “Joy Harjo Tickets.”
This event is a free event, but ticket registration is required.
Individuals will be allocated only two tickets apiece.
Tickets can also be reserved by calling 692-4177 or emailing directorbac@swiftel.net.
Harjo is coming to Brookings for a 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 book discussion and poetry reading at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on the South Dakota State University campus.
In 2019, Harjo was appointed the 23rd United States poet laureate, the first Native American to hold the position.
Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Harjo is an internationally known award-winning poet, writer, performer and saxophone player of the Mvskoke/Creek Nation.
Harjo is the author of nine books of poetry and a memoir.
She is coming to Brookings thanks to donations from the 3M Vibrancy Grant to the Brookings Arts Council, the South Dakota Humanities Council, the City of Brookings, and a private donor. The event is presented in partnership with Woodbine Productions.
