BROOKINGS – Chris Lerdal tossed a complete game and the Bandits put up a nine-spot in the sixth inning to take control during a 10-4 defeat of Huron Post 7 in Legion baseball action Thursday at Bob Shelden Field.

BROOKINGS – Chris Lerdal tossed a complete game and the Bandits put up a nine-spot in the sixth inning to take control during a 10-4 defeat of Huron Post 7 in Legion baseball action Thursday at Bob Shelden Field.

Lerdal gave up four runs on eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts. He threw 102 pitches in the nine-inning performance.

Brookings opened the scoring in the fifth.

Justin Devine, who finished 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, drew a free pass. Jacob Devine was hit by a pitch and Tyler Kreutner, who ended up 2-for-3, singled to load the bases.

Akren Prodoehl hit into a double play, which allowed Justin Devine to score.

Post 74 broke things open in the sixth.

Jameson Meyer got it going with a single and Jacob Schoon reached on a bunt single. Cody Niklason’s RBI single made it 2-0.

With one out, Justin Devine singled. Kreutner was hit by a pitch to force in Niklason.

Prodoehl came through with a two-run single and Lerdal followed with an RBI hit to push the margin to 7-0.

Prodoehl then sprinted home on Meyer’s groundout.

Schoon, who went 3-for-5, stroked a two-out RBI double. Niklason’s second run-scoring hit of the game put the Bandits ahead 10-0.

Huron avoided the shutout as Parker Dejean tripled with one out and later scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh.

Dejean finished the game 3-for-4, adding a two-run double in the ninth. Bryce Stephan, who singled, scored on Deion Waddle’s sacrifice fly to provide for the final margin.

Waddle, the first of three Huron pitchers, took the loss after giving up eight runs on nine hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.

Chipper Shillingstad doubled for Post 7.

Brookings (7-16) plays at Huron on Thursday at 6 p.m.
