BROOKINGS – The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation installed multiple cameras throughout downtown Brookings in anticipation of Hobo Day weekend.
The cameras are owned by the DCI and are loaned to Brookings Police Department for this weekend. They were installed by DCI agents and a detective. At left, the cameras were being installed at Main Avenue and Fourth Street Thursday.
“For this weekend, there is an increased amount of activity in the downtown area, namely at the bars. It’s generally an aid for us in case there is anything that occurs downtown, be it an assault or intentional damage or any other type of criminal activity,” Interim Police Chief Dave Erickson said. “It’s an aid for us in gathering evidence or pointing us in the right direction to solve that particular crime.”
This is a regular part of the Brookings Police Department’s preparations for Hobo Day that the department has done for years.
The cameras will be removed after the weekend as soon as weather allows.
