BROOKINGS – The Bobcats swept Huron in a baseball doubleheader Tuesday at Bob Shelden Field, winning 9-6 and 12-4.

The Bobcats finished the regular season with an 11-8 record. Regional play is Saturday to determine the four-team state tournament field.

Game 1

The Bobcats put up six runs in the third inning en route to the win.

Parker Rykhus finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a two-run single in the third. He scored on Rhett Zelinsky’s sacrifice fly to knot the score at 4-all.

Cole Mahlum added an RBI single and Tyler Kreutner tacked on a two-run hit to make it 7-4 heading to the fourth.

The Tigers scored twice in the top of the sixth to pull within 7-6, before Brookings countered with a two-spot of its own in the bottom of the inning.

Jacob Schoon singled and stole second, before scoring on a Rykhus single. Zelinsky singled with two away, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and, after Brady Ammann walked, took home on a double steal to provide for the final margin.

Schoon went 2-for-3.

Tanner Shepardson entered in the third and gave up two runs – both unearned – on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk in four innings to pick up the win. Jackson Krogman tossed a scoreless seventh to notch the save, striking out one batter and walking another.

Bryce Steffen and Max Kranzler both went 2-for-4 for Huron, which led 4-1 after two innings.

Daynon Huber, who took the mound in the third, surrendered four runs on one hit and three walks without recording an out while taking the loss.
