BROOKINGS – The Bombers Black knocked out five extra-base hits and took advantage of 10 walks to down Sioux Falls East, 9-4, in a single game at Mickelson Field on Wednesday.

Josh Devine got the offense started when he hit a one-out triple and was forced in when the next three batters drew a walk. After Kaden Jewett’s sacrifice flyout plated Payton Theodosopolous, Ethan Molengraff hit an RBI-double that scored Caden Krogman as Black led 3-0 through two complete.

Brookings added a single run in the third when Trey Svennes led off with a single and then stole second and third base before scoring on a balk.

Black tacked on three more runs in the fourth after Devine took one for the team; moved to second without a play; and then scored on Theodosopolous’ double. Krogman’s Texas-leaguer dropped in front of the center fielder, which didn’t allow Theodosopolous to advance, but he stole third on Sam Hardin’s at-bat. Krogman then advanced to second without a throw before three straight walks plated both Theodosopoulos and Krogman to give Brookings a 7-0 lead.

East finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth after sandwiching a pair of singles around a double to pull within 7-2, but Black answered with two in the bottom of the frame to make it 9-2.

Ashton Witte led off the fifth with a double, advanced to third on Jake Ammann’s groundball out and later scored on Theodosopoulos’ second double of the day. In between, Talon Richter took one for the team to get on base; moved to second without a play; and also scored on Theodosopoulos’ double.

Sioux Falls plated two more in the sixth, taking advantage of two hit batters before a pair of base hits drove in those two baserunners, for the final margin.

Hardin picked up the win on the mound after giving up two earned runs on six hits with one strikeout in 4 1/3 innings of work. Devine finished the fifth and sixth, allowing two earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts. Richter faced just three batters in the seventh, sandwiching a pair of flyouts around a strikeout.

Black, 5-2 on the season, has a rematch with East on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Watertown Tournament before taking on Aberdeen at 7 p.m. Sunday’s opponent is to be determined based on tournament results.
