BROOKINGS – The Bombers Gray split a youth baseball doubleheader with Brandon Valley 13s/14s Red on Thursday evening at Mickelson Field, winning the opener 15-5 in five innings before dropping the nightcap 11-7 in six innings.

Bombers Gray split DH with Brandon Valley

BROOKINGS – The Bombers Gray split a youth baseball doubleheader with Brandon Valley 13s/14s Red on Thursday evening at Mickelson Field, winning the opener 15-5 in five innings before dropping the nightcap 11-7 in six innings.

Brookings (5-27) travels to Pierre on Monday, taking on the hosts at 2 p.m. and Brandon Valley at 4 p.m.

Game 1

• Brookings 15, Brandon Valley 5 (5 inn.)

The Bombers Gray exploded for 10 runs in the fifth inning to pull away.

Brookings scored four times in the third to move ahead 4-3. Both teams scored one run in the fourth, and Brandon Valley pulled even at 5-all in the top of the fifth.

Logan Stotz went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Aidan Stewart finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Braden Clifford, who doubled, and Jesse Roberts, who singled, both totaled an RBI and two runs scored. Gavin Fixsen, who scored twice, Isac Norgaard, Magnus Nelson and Ethan Molengraaf added an RBI apiece. Norgaard and Nelson both singled. Keiji Numata scored twice.

Numata pitched a complete game, giving up five runs on eight hits and three walks with one strikeout.

The Bombers Gray did not commit an error.

Game 2

• Brandon Valley 11, Brookings 7 (6 inn.)

Brandon Valley scored one run in the fourth frame and three in the sixth to pull away from a 7-7 tie.

Norgaard totaled four RBIs to lead Brookings. He doubled.

Brayton Mack and Fixsen added a hit and an RBI apiece. Clifford was also credited with an RBI.

Davis Engen doubled; and Stewart and Joseph Holy both singled. Stewart scored two runs.
