BROOKINGS – A man found passed out at HyVee was arrested on suspicion of a probation violation and resisting arrest Saturday, according to the Brookings Police.
The police received a call about 3:49 p.m. Saturday “for an individual that was passed out in a bathroom stall,” Assistant Chief Derrick Powers said.
“(Officers) could observe that he was drinking and under the influence of an alcoholic beverage,” Powers said.
After officers identified the man, they found out he was on probation.
“It was determined through his probation officer that a probation hold would be placed on him,” Powers said.
When officers attempted to put the man in handcuffs, “he became aggressive towards officers, challenging them … becoming aggressive with them, threatening to fight them,” Powers said.
A Taser was deployed, which helped the officers get him into custody, he added.
Along with the original probation hold, the 30-year-old Brookings resident was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and transported to the Brookings County Detention Center.
