BROOKINGS – An iron bridge over the Sioux River west of Brookings was vandalized with paint and fire, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The damage was reported at 8 a.m. Wednesday and occurred on 215th Street between 469th Avenue and 468th Avenue, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.
“It was found that a suspect or suspects had painted graffiti on the bridge and started a fire in the middle of the bridge, which is constructed with wood planks. The fire damage was minimal,” Sebring said.
The incident happened sometime between 8 a.m. Tuesday and when it was found on Wednesday, he said, adding the graffiti was found the prior week.
