BROOKINGS – The South Dakota Association of Career and Technical Education has announced that Kris Brockhoft, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) state adviser, has been named the SDACTE Lifetime Achievement Award winner.
Brockhoft is recognized as a career and technical education professional for her leadership role on behalf of ACTE and her contributions and innovations to the field.
She is currently employed with the state of South Dakota at South Dakota State University in Brookings. Most recently she served as the family and consumer sciences educator and FCCLA adviser in the Winner School District. She has been a member of SDACTE/ACTE for the past 26 years. She has served as a cooperating teacher for several student teachers. Students in her classes have integrated technology for projects done in the classroom. Learning was project-based, and FCCLA was a part of the co-curricular activities found in her classroom.
Brockhoft has received many awards in her 25 years of teaching. She has served as the FCCLA adviser to 16 state officers and three national officers.
Her involvement at the national and state level as a lead consultant in competitive events as well as a presenter for workshops at these levels has given her the opportunity to share her expertise at many levels.
She was instrumental in applying and receiving grants from school to work, youth in governance, team nutrition and teens as teachers. Brockhoft has served on teams that have developed standards in human services at the state level. She also developed and evaluated new financial standards for Montana State University.
Funding for the plaque and a monetary gift that Brockhoft received was provided by Daktronics. She now qualifies to compete for the Region V ACTE Teacher of the Year. The Region V conference will be held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on April 11-14, 2018.
