BROOKINGS – A Dell Rapids man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault after he attempted to stab another man with a broken beer bottle, according to the Brookings Police.
The incident was reported about 1 a.m. Saturday and occurred at an establishment in the 300 block of Main Avenue, Assistant Chief Derrick Powers said.
By the time officers arrived, the suspect had left the scene. Officers talked to the victim and another witness.
“The victim and the suspect had been talking at the establishment and during that time the suspect broke a bottle and held it up to the victim,” Powers said.
“Some individuals separated the suspect from the victim, at which time, they left,” Powers said.
A description of the suspect was provided.
“Shortly before 2 a.m., one of our officers found him in the 500 block of 12th Street South,” Powers said.
The 25-year-old from Dell Rapids was arrested and transported to the Brookings County Detention Center.
There were no injuries to the victim, Powers said.
He did not have information on whether alcohol or drugs was involved.
