Brookings County Republicans will host a noon luncheon at the Pheasant Restaurant in Brookings. The public is invited to come meet Josh Haeder, candidate for state treasurer and current northeast director for U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds.

The South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum’s next Make & Take Monday is set for 1-3 p.m. July 23. Kids and adults are welcome to come make crafts for $1 per person per craft. Learn more at agmuseum.com.

The Brookings County Museum complex and its new Trygve A. Trooien Horse-Drawn Museum in Volga’s City Park are free and open seven days a week, 1-4 p.m.

The Brookings Public Library will host an ice cream social with water balloons starting at 2 p.m. Monday, July 23. Kid are invited to come enjoy a summer treat as the library’s summer events wind down.

The Brookings Photography Club’s next meeting is set for 7 p.m. Monday, July 23, at the Brookings Arts Council, 524 Fourth St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. It’s free and open to all.

Bingo at the Brookings VFW, 520 Main Ave., is from 6:30-10 p.m. Monday, July 23. Cards are handed out at 6:30, and bingo starts at 7. Lunch will be available. For more information, call 692-6771.

Tuesday, July 24

The Brookings Employer-Led Disability Alliance invites all area employers to a free educational event called “Invisible Disabilities.” From 8-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, come to McCrory Gardens to hear from Dr. Jody Owens, a licensed psychologist from South Dakota who will share information about PTSD, mental health, addiction and recovery and provide best practices on how to assist employees who might have these invisible disabilities.

Brookings PFLAG is having a family picnic Tuesday, July 24, at the Hillcrest picnic shelter by the tennis courts. Start to gather at 5:30 p.m. and eat at 6 p.m.

Please bring either a hot dish, salad or dessert to share and your own beverage. Table service will be provided.

The next Adult Craft Night at the Brookings Public Library is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, in the Cooper Room. Participants will make Moroccan glass jar lamps, which involves coloring glass jars and then making designs on them with metallic paint. Pre-registration is required; call the library at 692-9407 or stop in to sign up.

Wednesday, July 25

1 Million Cups, a way for creators, artists, entrepreneurs and business owners to gather and share ideas on upcoming projects or new products, will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the Children’s Museum of South Dakota. Free coffee will be served.

The final session of The Art of the Story, Classic Superman Cartoon Movies, is set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the South Dakota Art Museum. This free event is ideal for kids ages 4-12 years, but all are welcome. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Watch the original Superman cartoon short films from 1940 and 1941. Fleischer Studios’ “Superman” was ranked No. 33 in a list of the 50 greatest cartoons of all times. Kids can compare the images in these classic animations with the artworks in the My Hero! exhibit and from more recent superhero movies they know. Superhero costumes welcome.

The Brookings Area Human Resources Association will host DisruptHR Brookings from 4:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Club 71 in the Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. Tickets are $25 each. To register, visit disrupthr.co/city/brookings or contact dis-ruptHRBrookings.

If you love to paint, join the painting group that meets from noon-5 p.m. every Thursday at the Brookings Arts Council, 524 Fourth St. Come work on individual projects and collaborate on art talk and ideas. No pre-registration is needed.

The Brookings County Drug Court team invites the public to the commencement ceremony honoring its newest graduates. The ceremony is set for 1 p.m. Thursday, July 26, in the third-floor courtroom of the Brookings County Courthouse, 314 Sixth Ave., Brookings.

The summer concert series Downtown at Sundown continues its 2018 season from 5-9 p.m. Thursday, July 26, in the 300 block of Fifth Street. The headliner this week is Soca Jukebox. This five-piece ensemble will transport you to the islands with a blend of reggae, calypso, country and rasta-goodness. Folks of all ages will enjoy the charisma, humor and shimmering steel pans that is Soca Jukebox.

The family-friendly event also includes food and retail vendors and free kids’ activities. Admission is free.

Friday, July 27

A rummage sale benefitting foster care children will be held Friday and Saturday, July 27-28, at United Church of Christ, 828 Eighth St. S., Brookings. Friday hours are 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

Bruce Honey Days are set for Friday through Sunday, July 27-29 in Bruce, with a theme of Jamaican Bee Crazy Mon! Friday events include a KCountry Cookout from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in Museum Park, a bean bag tournament starting at 6 p.m. at the ball diamond, and knockerballs from 7-10 p.m. in the kids’ park.

Arlington Days kick off Friday, July 27. Events include alumni basketball games, 4 p.m in the AHS lower gym; bean bag tournaments, 6 p.m., uptown Main Street; welcome, announcement of parade marshal, and Little Mr. and Miss Arlington Pageant, 7 p.m. in the AHS lower gym; entertainment, 9 p.m. at the Cardinal Tap and Schmidty’s Bar.

The next Brookings Critical Mass bike ride is set for 6 p.m. Friday, July 27, starting at the corner of Fifth Street and Main Avenue. All ages are welcome to come for a casual ride around town with a fun group of Brookings bicycling enthusiasts. The group eats downtown afterward.

Brookings Community Theatre presents the musical “Annie” July 27-29 in V.A. Bell Auditorium at the Brookings High School. Showtime is 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $12 for seniors, students and children, $15 for adults and $5 for kids under 8 and can be purchased at Brookings Book Company and The Optical Shop in advance, at the door starting one hour before the show, and online at www.BrookingsCommunityTheatre.org.

Activities include a 5K run, walk or pedal, 7:30 a.m. at the community center; craft show and bake sale, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. in museum park and at the Legion hall; parade at 10 a.m.; music from “Them Guys” and a burger feed, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in Museum Park; car show, setup from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and judging at 1 p.m. on Main Street; co-ed volleyball, noon at the ball diamond; horseshoe tournament, 1 p.m. at the ball diamond; pork barbecue feed and music by Plum Crazy, 5-7 p.m. at Museum Park; and a street dance featuring music by Undercover, 9 p.m.-1 a.m. on Main Street.

The Brookings Area Master Gardeners’ Summer Garden Tour will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, July 28, starting at the McCrory Gardens Education & Visitor Center, 631 22nd Ave. The tour features five Brookings area gardens.

Brookings Area Singles will host a dance from 8:30 p.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at McKnight Hall in White. The theme is “Out Surfin’” with music from the Norgaard Duo. Admission is $7 for members and $8 for non-members.

Events for the day include a Legion pancake breakfast, 8-11 a.m. at the Legion Hall; a community church service, 11 a.m. in Museum Park; co-ed volleyball, 11 a.m. at the ball diamond; horseshoe tournament, 1 p.m. at the ball diamond; cow pie bingo, 2 p.m. at the ball diamond; and Town & Country softball, 6:15 p.m. at the ball diamond.
