Brookings Health System rolls out hybrid birth and baby education

BROOKINGS — Brookings Health System has rolled out a hybrid education format for parents expecting a baby.

The new "Understanding Birth & Baby eClass" teaches parents the basics about childbirth, breastfeeding, baby care and postpartum health. Once parents have completed eClass coursework, they are encouraged to attend the in-person "Understanding Birth & Baby Recap."

“We’ve moved the bulk of our education to a new eClass format to allow parents to learn at their own pace at times that work best in their life schedule. To help answer questions and familiarize parents with our labor and delivery suites, we are also providing a two-hour, in-person recap session every other month,” said Obstetrics Director Michelle Sand.

The eClasses are available in eight languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Arabic, Japanese and Chinese. The recap session is also open to experienced parents who are new to the community or would like a labor and delivery refresher.

All classes remain free-of-charge. To learn more about birth and baby education or to register for a class, visit brookingsheath.org/BabyClass.
