GILBERT, Ariz. – The Brookings Outlaws 14U team went 4-1 and placed second in the March Madness Fastpitch Softball Tournament over the weekend.

Brookings Outlaws 14U place second in Arizona

GILBERT, Ariz. – The Brookings Outlaws 14U team went 4-1 and placed second in the March Madness Fastpitch Softball Tournament over the weekend.

They won three games Saturday and split a pair Sunday, eventually falling 5-1 to the Arizona Hustle in the championship game.

Saturday

 Outlaws 13, Regulators 2 (4 inn.)

Brookings overcame an early 2-0 deficit with seven runs in the bottom of the first and then pulled away.

Morgan Norgaard tripled, singled, drove in three runs and scored once.
Ahleeya Nicola doubled, singled, drove in three runs and scored twice.

Kymber Buys (triple), Tess Burns (single) and Brenley Goebel added RBIs.

The Outlaws totaled eight hits.

Taya Clausen allowed two runs – one earned – on just two hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in a complete-game effort.

 Outlaws 19, Team Hussle Jefferon 2 (3 inn.)

The Outlaws racked up 12 hits and took control early, scoring five times in the first and adding 10 runs in the second.

Buys racked up five RBIs, belting a home run and adding a triple. She scored three runs.

Norgaard logged a trio of RBIs.

Kylie Ramlo tripled, drove in a pair of scored three times.

Caymen Ferber (triple) had two RBIs and three runs. Nicola (single) logged two RBIs. Izzi Parsons and Addy Bortnem both added two hits.

Burns picked up the win in the circle, surrendering two runs on three hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts.

 Outlaws 9, T-Rex 1 (4 inn.)

Brookings pulled away from a 4-1 advantage with a five-run third frame.

Parsons ended up 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Buys homered and tripled, scoring twice.

Burns went deep and totaled two RBIs. Goebel singled and drove in a pair. Nicola was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Ferber doubled.

Clausen earned the pitching win, giving up one run on four hits with eight strikeouts and a walk.

Sunday

 Outlaws 7, OV Suncats Sgambati 0 (3 inn.)

Clausen tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out five without issuing a free pass.

The Outlaws finished with 11 hits.

Ferber (triple) and Norgaard had two hits and an RBI apiece.

Burns (RBI) and Parsons both doubled. Buys added a triple. Nicola drove in a run and singled.

Championship

 Arizona Hustle 5, Brookings 1 (5 inn.)

The Hustle scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings before putting up a pair in the fifth.

The Outlaws’ lone run came in the third.

Goebel was 2-for-2 with a run scored.

Parsons had a hit and an RBI.

Nicola (triple) and Ramlo added hits.

Clausen surrendered five runs – four earned – on eight hits with six strikeouts and three walks in 4 2/3 innings. Burns walked a batter before logging a strikeout to end the fifth frame.
