Calvin Jensen, 69, of Volga, passed away on Dec. 25, 2021, at the Brookings hospital surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the First Lutheran Church of Volga at 2 p.m. The service will be recorded and uploaded to the Eidsness Funeral Home website Wednesday afternoon.  Interment will immediately follow the service at First Lutheran Cemetery in Volga.  Family and friends are invited to join the family following burial at the church for a time of fellowship.  Visitation time will take place the evening prior, Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the Jensen family requests that memorial donations be made in Calvin’s name to the First Lutheran Church of Volga or the Brookings Humane Society.
Calvin Joel Jensen was born on May 6, 1952, to James and Margaret (Schmidt) Jensen in Brookings, South Dakota.  Calvin grew up in the Brookings area, graduating from Sioux Valley High School in Volga, South Dakota along with the class of 1971.  On May 25, 1973, Calvin was united in marriage to Mary (Moose) Jensen at the First Lutheran Church in Volga, and the couple made their home in the Volga community.
Throughout his life, Calvin worked as an over the road trucker for over 20 years, allowing him to see all of the lower 48 states and 5 provinces of Canada.  He also worked at Larson Manufacturing for several years, and most recently retired from his lawn care business.  Calvin was also a member of the First Lutheran Church of Volga, where he was baptized, confirmed, and married.
Calvin held many interests throughout his life including fishing from his ranger boat, ice fishing from his side-by-side, hunting various critters, and telling stories that were always true (and sometimes exaggerated).  Calvin had the biggest heart and was there for anyone that needed help, never meeting anyone that didn’t quickly become a friend.  He loved and cherished his friends.  Calvin was especially proud of his grandchildren and the people they were becoming.
Calvin is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary; children: Connie (Jamie) Seward, of Volga, SD, and Steven Jensen, of Volga, SD;  grandchildren: Sydney, Jazon, and Axel; siblings: Cathy Lakeman, of Brookings, and Gary Jensen, of Volga; and a multitude of extended family and good friends which are too numerous to list.  He has so many friends that were his chosen family who loved and supported him unconditionally.  They lifted his spirits and helped carry him throughout the past year.  We hope they all know how grateful we are for their love and friendship.  As you all know, Cal had the biggest, most loving, and generous heart, and he will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved Miniature Pinscher-Chow, Buddy.
