BROOKINGS – The City of Brookings has installed an after-hours compost drop-off site within the Douglas Chittick Community Gardens.
The new site, which is available for drop off 24 hours a day, “will give residents another option to dispose of their yard waste when the landfill isn’t open,” said Todd Langland, Brookings’ director of solid waste management.
Residents can drop off grass clippings, City of Brookings compostable yard waste bags, garden waste and leaves in the designated area. The city asks that residents do not dispose of tree branches or general garbage at the site.
The community gardens and drop-off site are located at the northeast corner of Medary Avenue and the Highway 14 Bypass intersection.
Questions regarding the compost drop-off site may be directed to the City of Brookings Solid Waste, Landfill & Collection Department at 693-3667 or tlangland@cityofbrookings.org .
Questions related to the Douglas Chittick Community Gardens may be directed to the City of Brookings Park, Recreation, and Forestry Department at 692-2708.
