SIOUX FALLS — South Dakota State juniors Jocelyn Carrillo and Tori Kniesche were both recognized on Monday as they were named the TicketSmarter Summit League Softball Peak Performer and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the conference announced.

Carrillo had a solid weekend for the Jackrabbits in their sweep of Omaha in Sioux Falls. In three games, Carrillo went a combined 5-for-10 at the plate. She hit three doubles and walked twice while driving in an RBI. Her run driven in on a single was the game winner in the 1-0 eight-inning victory in the series opener against the Mavs on Friday. Carrillo also had an outfield assist from her center field position during the series finale.

Kniesche pitched in all three games against the Mavericks and started two, eventually finishing with all three victories for the Jackrabbits. Her two starts resulted in complete-game shutouts that went extra innings. In the first game of the series, Kniesche held the Mavs at bay throwing eight innings of two-hit softball while walking two batters. She struck out 18 hitters, the second most in a single game in her career. The second game saw Kniesche come on in relief in a 5-4 win for SDSU. She threw 1 2/3 innings and didn’t give up a hit or free base while striking out a batter.

The series finale saw Kniesche go a school-record 14 innings in the circle. She gave up six hits and five walks, but struck out 15 hitters in the process as SDSU closed out a 1-0 win. Kniesche ended the weekend by throwing 23 2/3 innings and striking out 34 hitters, allowing eight hits and seven walks while not giving up a run.

Carrillo’s weekly honor is the second of her college career and first since the 2021 season. Kniesche’s pitcher of the week honors are the fourth of the 2023 season for the Wayne, Neb., native and the 11th of her Jackrabbit tenure.

SDSU heads to Iowa State next for a doubleheader which begins at 1 p.m. on Tuesday in Ames.
