Two members of the South Dakota State volleyball team were recognized with all-league awards from the Summit League Wednesday. Crystal Burk earned a spot on the league’s first team for the second straight season while Masa Scheierman was named to the all-freshman team.

College volleyball: Crystal Burk, Masa Scheierman earn All-Summit League honors

Two members of the South Dakota State volleyball team were recognized with all-league awards from the Summit League Wednesday. Crystal Burk earned a spot on the league’s first team for the second straight season while Masa Scheierman was named to the all-freshman team.

Burk averaged 4.68 kills per set in Summit League action to lead the Jackrabbits. That marks ranks second in the Summit League. Her 528 total kills this year is a single-season program record and ranks fifth in the nation while her 4.47 kills per set overall ranks 11th in the country. The fifth-year senior also notched 3.24 digs per set in conference matches, which ranks second in the league among non-liberos.

Burk holds a place on a number of charts in the SDSU record book. In addition to her single-season kills mark, Burk is also the program’s career attacks leader (4,782), single-season attacks leader (1,426) and single-season points leader (587.5).

Burk was also a first-team pick last season and was honorable mention all-league in 2020.

Scheierman is the second Jackrabbit to earn a spot on the all-freshman team in as many seasons, Scheierman’s 2.52 kills per set in league play ranks second both on the team and among the league’s freshmen.
