BROOKINGS – Area fire departments responded to two fires last week, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The first fire was reported at 4 p.m. Wednesday and occurred at a residence near 213th Street and 484th Avenue north of Elkton, said Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.
“It was found that the fire originated in a vent fan in a bathroom. No one was injured but the home received extensive damage,” Sebring said.
Also responding were the Elkton Fire Department, Brookings Fire Department, and Aurora Fire Department.
The fire is under investigation with the Elkton Fire Department and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The second report was a grass fire at 11:05 a.m. Friday in a stubble field near 468th Avenue and 220th Street near Lake Campbell.
“It was found that a resident had started to burn trash and the wind came up, which carried the fire into the stubble field and burnt five to six acres east of their tree grove,” Sebring said.
The Brookings Fire Department also responded.
The fire is under investigation with the Brookings Fire Department and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
