BROOKINGS – Darrell Rognan, 60, of Brookings, was arrested after crashing his moped Saturday afternoon, according to Brookings Police.
He was arrested on suspicion of DUI-fourth offense and driving with a revoked license, said Lt. Derrick Powers.
The accident was called in shortly before 4:30 p.m. Saturday and occurred at the intersection of Eighth Street South and Main Avenue South, Powers said.
“The moped was the only vehicle involved in the accident,” Powers said.
“It was found that prior to the crash, the driver had been traveling ... according to a witness, at 25 mph when he lost his balance and fell, crashed the moped,” Powers said.
“The officers identified that the driver had been drinking. It was determined the driver’s ability to operate the moped was impaired by alcoholic beverages, which resulted in the accident,” Powers said.
Rognan was transported to the Brookings hospital by the Brookings Ambulance.
“I believe he was later taken to Sioux Falls for additional treatment (by ambulance),” Powers added.
Powers did not know if Rognan was still in the hospital as of Monday morning.
