BROOKINGS – A Louisiana man was injured when his pickup rolled on Interstate 29 Monday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident was reported at 1:45 a.m. Monday and occurred in the northbound lane of Interstate 29, near mile marker 128, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.
Jackson Kolby Mears, 18, of Zachary, Louisiana, was driving a 2009 Chevy Silverado pickup.
“It was found that the vehicle was traveling northbound when the driver, Jackson Kolby Mears, fell asleep. The vehicle entered the east ditch where the driver woke up and attempted to steer the vehicle back onto the roadway. He then lost control of the vehicle where it rolled into the median,” Sebring said.
Mears was transported to the Brookings hospital by the Brookings Ambulance with unknown injuries. The Silverado sustained $11,000 worth of damage, Sebring said.
Also responding was the Brookings Fire Department, South Dakota State University Police Department and Brookings Police Department.
The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Sebring said.
