BROOKINGS – The Brookings School District briefly gained some new faculty members earlier this week.
During Camelot Intermediate School’s Educator for a Day activities Wednesday, Superintendent Klint Willert brought a sheep from his farm, explaining their diet and how food goes through their four stomachs. He also told them about the different varieties of wool sheep produce and their uses. Pictured above are James Contreras, Carly Cameron, Gabby Bryant, Willert and David Rodriguez.
Below, Emily Hagedorn listens to her heart while Yuki Zhu helps her out during Kristine Storhaug’s presentation about nursing in Chad Hauge’s classroom.
Michael Fleming wears a gown in order to enter a surgery area during the presentation by Storhaug.
Members of the SDSU Pride of the Dakotas drumline, led by Aaron Ragsdale, perform and speak with the students about playing their instruments as wells as their musical backgrounds that brought them to play with the Pride.
Army veterans and VFW members Loren Hanson and Dave Zoelle taught students about proper American flag etiquette, the flag's background, as well as how to properly fold and handle the flag. They also shared more information about the VFW and Rolling Thunder and all they do for the POW/MIA causes.
Pictured are the two men properly folding the flag as Camelot Principal Tim Lease reads the meanings for each of the 13 folds performed. Also pictured are the veterans displaying the POW/MIA flag as students hold their flags given to them by the VFW.
Darcy Vincent's fourth-grade class learned about exercise and nutrition from the Powershop Gym. The students had friendly squat and plank competitions.
Educator for a Day is done each year at Camelot in recognition of Education Week, which was Nov. 13-17 this year. Guest speakers were invited to the school to share a passion or area of expertise with the students. Find more photos from Camelot online at www.brookingsregister.com.
