1 Million Cups, a way for creators, artists, entrepreneurs and business owners to gather and share ideas on upcoming projects or new products, will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, at the Children’s Museum of South Dakota. Free coffee will be served.

Bingo at the Brookings VFW, 520 Main Ave., is from 6:30-10 p.m. Wednesday, March 13. Cards are handed out at 6:30, and bingo starts at 7. Lunch will be available. For more information, call 692-6771.

The second annual Parent & Guardian Symposium will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. at Brookings High School. The event is free and open to all parents and guardians in the community. It will feature James Conway of The SEARCH Institute. Learn how to build relationships that help young people thrive.

Thursday, March 14

If you love to paint, join the painting group that meets from noon-5 p.m. every Thursday at the Brookings Arts Council, 524 Fourth St. Come work on individual projects and collaborate on art talk and ideas. No pre-registration is needed.

The Brookings Public Library’s next Adult Craft Class is set for 2 p.m. Thursday, March 14. Participants will make foil-wrapped eggs. Registration is required; stop by the library or call 692-9407 to sign up.

The Brookings Library Puppeteers present their next puppet show, March Mayhem, at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14. Everyone is invited to come enjoy the family-friendly fun.

South Dakota State University professor John Brawand will perform a faculty violin recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in the Performing Arts Center’s Founders Recital Hall on campus. Art & Arthropods will be held from 1-4 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the McCrory Gardens Education and Visitor Center. Join McCrory Gardens and Blue Dasher Research Farm to learn about insects and other arthropods like spiders and centipedes, then use the materials the gardens have on hand to build one yourself. A discussion on creating a Brookings Area Natural Foods Co-op grocery store will be held from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, March 16, at the Brookings Public Library. All are welcome, and snacks prepared with local foods will be provided.

McCrory Gardens will host a free Maple Syrup Workshop from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16. Come see a close-up of the process and equipment used at the gardens, as well as a home-made evaporator built by Brookings Area Master Gardener Perry Johnson. Get inspired and discover the tools needed to try it out yourself, or just enjoy learning about the process to make this tasty treat. A Lions Club benefit spaghetti supper will be held from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at the First United Methodist Church Community Life Center, Sixth Avenue and Sixth Street, Brookings. A pie sale also starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $7 in advance from Lions Club members and $8 at the door for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12 years old. Proceeds will go toward Lions projects and the Lions KidSight Program.
