If you love to paint, join the painting group that meets from noon-5 p.m. every Thursday at the Brookings Arts Council, 524 Fourth St. Come work on individual projects and collaborate on art talk and ideas. No pre-registration is needed.

The next Third Thursday at McCrory Gardens is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the McCrory Gardens Education and Visitor Center. SDSU instructor of horticulture Brett Owens will present “Preparing Your Garden and Edible Landscape.” This class is free and open to the public. Avera Behavioral Health of Brookings will host a free Talk Saves Lives program with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in the second-floor community room at the 1921 Building in Brookings. A free supper will be offered.

Friday, April 19

Bingo at the Brookings VFW, 520 Main Ave., is from 6:30-10 p.m. Friday, April 19. Cards are handed out at 6:30, and bingo starts at 7. Lunch will be available. For more information, call 692-6771.

Saturday, April 20

Hop on out to the Swiftel Center for the annual Community Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 20. This free event opens at 9 a.m. with the hunt beginning at 10 a.m. sharp. Kids can hunt for candy, play games and win prizes. There will be a special appearance by the Easter Bunny. The hunt sections are grouped into age categories. All ages are welcome to the event; only children 12 and under can participate in the hunt. There is also a special Sensory Inclusive Area which is open to children of all ages.

Fallout Shelter Ministries will host a free Self-Defense and Fear Management Class from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at First Bank & Trust, 520 Sixth St., Brookings. Register on the Fallout Shelter Ministries Facebook page, under the event “Self Defense Class.”

Brookings Dance Club invites all dancers to its Prom Dance from 8 p.m.-midnight Saturday, April 20, at McKnight Community Hall in White. Live music will be provided by Family Tradition Band. Door prizes will be given away, and attendees are welcome to bring snacks to share. Admission is $10 per person. Must be 21 or older.

Sunday, April 21

A dance will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at the Elkton Community Center. Live music will be provided by Doc Holliday, and a potluck lunch is planned. All are welcome.

Monday, April 22

Curbside pickup for the citywide spring cleanup will resume Monday, April 22, with sections 4, 5, 6 and 7. If crews have already been through your neighborhood, they will not be coming back. For more information, call the Solid Waste Department at 693-3667.

Feeding South Dakota will provide free food for families in need at its next mobile food distribution from 10:15-11:15 p.m. Monday, April 22, in the Volga Community Center, 109 Samara Ave. Food distributions provide an assortment of food that may include frozen and fresh produce, frozen meats, assorted breads and/or canned and boxed items. Please bring something to carry your food in, such as coolers, bags or totes.

The public is invited to attend a student art exhibition from 3-6 p.m. Monday, April 22, in SDSU’s Student Union gallery, hosted by UPC. Enjoy a diverse array of art celebrated using different mediums created by students from several majors. Refreshments will be served at this free event. In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, come relax with music from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Music Therapy Empowers, 614 Main Ave. S., Brookings. All ages are welcome.

The South Dakota Art Museum is hosting a free public artists reception to celebrate “Flourish: Marjolein Dallinga & Jantje Visscher,” which opened Feb. 26 and runs through August 4. Light hors d’ouevres and refreshments will be served from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24. An artist talk featuring Marjolein Dallinga begins at 5:45.
