BROOKINGS – YellowHouse Films will host a screening of “Farmer of the Year” at 7 p.m. Friday in the Larson Concert Hall on the SDSU campus.

The film is 104 minutes long and was filmed in southwest Minnesota and South Dakota. It stars Barry Corbin (“Northern Exposure,” “No Country for Old Men”) and Terry Kiser (“Weekend at Bernie’s”).

The film has a PG rating for a low-key drama/comedy with typically understated Midwestern humor. Tickets are $10 apiece, plus fees, and can be ordered online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/award-winning-feature-film-farmer-of-the-year-brookings-sd-tickets-47941714960?aff=erelexpmlt

The movie has won acclaim at several film festivals around the country.

When widowed 82-year-old Minnesota farmer Hap Anderson sells the family farm, he finds himself marginalized and adrift. Motivated by the possibility of showing up with an old flame and impressing his old army buddies, he sets out to attend his 65th World War II reunion with his unemployed granddaughter in a dilapidated Winnebago.

Encountering oddball tourist attractions and eccentric characters, they find themselves in seemingly impossible situations with only each other for support.

From finding a place that will cash a Travelers Cheque to enjoying a cup of instant coffee, they begin to understand and appreciate each other as individuals while discovering that their issues are ageless.
