Editor's note: Court documents say the victim in this case was a 2-year-old girl, not 3 years old, as initially reported.
BROOKINGS – Two Brookings residents pleaded not guilty Monday to felony charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and abuse or cruelty to a minor under age 7.
The couple, Renae Fayant, 25, and Robert Price Jr., 27, was indicted by a Brookings County grand jury Friday in connection to the malnourishment and dehydration death of a 2-year-old girl, Fayant’s niece, who was in their care. Jury trials for both defendants have been set for Nov. 20, and they remain in the Brookings County Detention Center on $100,000 cash-only bond.
Price’s attorney requested that Judge Dawn Elshere lower Price’s bond, but the request was denied.
