BROOKINGS – Fewer suspects were booked into the Brookings County Detention Center this year than last over the Hobo Day weekend, but the center had eight more DUI arrests than last year, according to Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.

Fewer arrests over Hobo Day weekend this year

BROOKINGS – Fewer suspects were booked into the Brookings County Detention Center this year than last over the Hobo Day weekend, but the center had eight more DUI arrests than last year, according to Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.

There were 36 arrestees booked into the detention center from 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, through noon Sunday, Oct. 24; and there were 46 arrestees in 2020, Sebring said.

There were 82 overall charges among the arrestees this year, compared to 122 charges in 2020, for 40 fewer overall charges this year among those who came to the jail, Sebring said.

The numbers for some charges among arrestees were up, but most were down:

• 22 DUI charges this year; 14 in 2020;

• 17 misdemeanor drug charges this year; 18 in 2020;

• Five felony drug charges this year; 10 in 2020;

• Three assault charges this year; six in 2020;

• 19 underage possession of alcohol or open container charges this year; 31 in 2020;

• One charged for disorderly conduct/obstructing LEO/resisting arrest this year; seven in 2020;

• Six miscellaneous traffic charges this year; 11 in 2020;

• One possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated charge this year; one in 2020;

• Seven charges for possession of a revoked, altered or fictitious license this year; 21 in 2020;

• Zero charges for sale of tobacco to a minor this year; two in 2020;

• One arrested on a misdemeanor warrant this year; one in 2020.
