BROOKINGS – A vehicle, firearms and jewelry were stolen in a weekend burglary in Volga, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The burglary and thefts were reported at 2:56 p.m. Sunday and happened sometime between 3 p.m. Saturday and the time of the report Sunday, in the 700 block of East Fifth Street in Volga. Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said unknown individual(s) forcibly entered the residence.
Taken were a 2007 silver Ford Fusion, two 20-guage shotguns, one 12-guage shotgun, two .22 rifles, and jewelry.
“Deputies found sometime during the above dates, someone had entered the residence, stole five firearms, jewelry and a vehicle parked inside their garage,” Sebring reported.
“The suspect(s) then departed in the stolen vehicle. Deputies continued to search for the vehicle. While searching for the vehicle, they were alerted to its location approximately 1 mile away from the residence (where) the theft occurred, and it was returned to the owners. The total loss of the theft is still unknown at this time,” Sebring said.
