BROOKINGS – There were twice as many accidents during a Tuesday storm than there were all Thanksgiving weekend, according to Brookings Police.
Slick roads from the stormy weather last week probably contributed to all the accidents, noted Assistant Chief Derrick Powers.
He cautioned folks to adjust their driving to the road conditions.
“If you’re sliding on the ice, you’re overdriving road conditions,” he said.
The storm that hit the area on Nov. 26 brought conditions that contributed to at least six accidents, Powers said.
“That would have been reported between 4:30-7 p.m.; all of them minor accidents,” he said.
He heard that one person in one of the accidents planned to go to the Emergency Room on their own, but there were no serious injuries from any of the accidents.
“Nothing that required on-scene treatment or anyone to be transported,” Powers said.
There were no accidents reported on Thanksgiving Day and one each of the next three days, Powers said, adding that all three were non-injury accidents.
“It appears that a couple of them were a result of slick roads,” he added.
He figured the lower numbers over the extended weekend were from people just not wanting to venture out or that they had already traveled elsewhere for the holiday.
