BROOKINGS – Mark your calendar for some Fourth of July fun next Wednesday in Brookings.

The traditional parade will roll through the heart of Brookings, and that’s followed later in the day by the 17th annual Uncle Sam Jam at the Swiftel Center.

Line-up for the parade starts at 9:30 a.m. by the Brookings Police Department, and entries hit the streets for an 11 a.m. start.

From the police department, the parade will travel east on Third Street, north on Medary Avenue, west on Sixth Street and south on Main Avenue.

There’s no entry fee to be in the parade, but participants are asked to sign up in advance at Brookings Radio, 227 22nd Ave.

Take a few hours off before heading out to the Uncle Sam Jam, an opportunity to enjoy free family fun on Independence Day with the entire community.

Uncle Sam Jam events kick off at 5 p.m. with activities all evening: inflatable games, face painting, train rides, balloon twisting, a sandbox for all ages to enjoy, a petting zoo, princess meet and greets, kids crafts and the Great Plains ZooMobile. Take festive family photos at the Uncle Sam Jam photo booth.

The Rude Band will provide live music, and a fireworks finale starting at dusk will top off the night.

A variety of prizes will be given away, including Uncle Sam Jam sunglasses, Nick’s Hamburger gift certificates, Dairy Queen coupons, koozies and more. Five lucky winners will be drawn to win a pair of admission tickets to the Wing and Brew Festival on August 11.

For more information and a schedule of Uncle Sam Jam activities, visit www.swiftelcenter.com, follow the Swiftel Center on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram or call 692-7539.
