GracePoint Student Ministry honored for volunteer efforts

BROOKINGS – The Helpline Center recently announced that GracePoint Student Ministry has been named the July 2021 Volunteer of the Month, an area-wide award program sponsored by the Helpline Center and First Bank & Trust.

Students and families from GracePoint Student Ministry partnered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to build 50 bed frames for children in the Brookings community who do not have beds to sleep on.

Overall, almost 50 volunteers were on site working to build the beds on a Saturday morning. Out of those 50, about 15 of them were a part of GracePoint Student Ministry in one way or another. For a few hours, students and their families sanded lumber, drilled holes, stained planks, and put bed frames together alongside other community members to serve the children of Brookings.

According to a GracePoint release, “The coolest thing was seeing our kids build beds with their parents and siblings.

“It’s so special to be able to do that as a family. Dave Miller does a great job of leading this non-profit for our community, and he makes it easy for groups of any age and experience level to jump in and make an immediate difference in the lives of our community’s kids.”
