BROOKINGS — Come fall 2024 there will be a ribbon cutting at a new facility offering Brookings-area residents senior living, assisted living and a memory unit, all under one roof: that was the look to the future offered Tuesday morning at the groundbreaking ceremony for Peaceful Pines Senior Living.

Among the several public and private dignitaries taking part and “throwing dirt” was Deputy Mayor Nick Wendell, representing the city of Brookings. He welcomed the coming of the new facility, noting that “it’s a sign of a successful community to have access to this type of care in Brookings,” adding, “Thank you for letting us celebrate with you and congratulations to the people of HME Cares.” The new facility will be one of several under the overarching umbrella of HME Companies.

“The employees really make the difference for our residents,” said Victoria Blatchford, senior vice president HME Companies and HME Cares. She added, “The No. 1 thing that we all do at HME Care is taking care of the residents. Our residents are at the center of everything we do. It makes us feel like home and we hope they feel like home. And it’s through exceptional care and service with compassion.”

Continuing her comments, Blatchford called attention to HME’s brochure stressing commitment to “community safety and security” delivered via “a state-of-the-art preventative care system with an all-in-one integrated senior care platform focused on health, safety, and care quality.” The “integrated call system” system allows staff to monitor medical needs of residents 24/7 in real time and respond quickly when needed. “It tracks all their movements.”

HME Companies offices are located at 432 Fifth Street in downtown Brookings. The Peaceful Pines Senior Living facility will be located at 900 20th Street South. It will house 108 total units: 42 independent living; 39 assisted living; and 27 memory care.

Peaceful Pines facilities are now open in Rapid City and Milbank. In addition to Brookings, similar facilities are planned for: Madison, August 2023; Ft. Pierre, October 2023; Spearfish, spring 2024; and Huron, 2024.
