BROOKINGS – Maria Hall has been named South Dakota State University’s Civil Service Employee of the Month for April. Hall, an accounting assistant in the Office of Academic Affairs, will be honored from 2-4 p.m. Thursday in front of Doner Auditorium.

“Maria is a good example of what an SDSU employee should be – friendly, always willing to help, asks if she can help, does her job to the best of her ability, goes the extra mile, gets along well with everyone and has a great love for SDSU,” said Linda Schumacher, an executive administrative assistant.

Hall, who has also worked in the Office of Records and Registration, the Cashier’s Office and the Shared Payroll Center, has made an impact in the Office of Academic Affairs since starting there in January 2017.

“Maria is consistently striving to excel in serving others. She takes the initiative and ownership of her duties. Additionally, if something needs to get done that might not be part of her official duties, she takes initiative to serve and assist when those times arise,” said Vince Lahren, a budget specialist in the Office of Academic Affairs.

In addition to her office responsibilities, Hall has sold tickets for the athletic department for several years.

“Maria has been a huge part of the athletic game-day event staff for athletic ticketing for many years and has always provided an excellent work ethic and personality to the group. Maria is always willing to go the extra step when needed and helps out as much as possible,” said Dalton Williams, the assistant director in SDSU athletics ticket sales and operations.

Hall has worked at South Dakota State University since 1999. She and her husband, Robert, have two children, Cassie and Alex. Robert Hall is a retired SDSU Extension agronomist. Maria Hall, who was born in the Philippines, actively participates in International Night by cooking or showcasing Filipino food and costumes.
