BROOKINGS – Brookings High School students kicked off homecoming week Monday night by crowning Grace Mork as lady and Zander Larson as lord at the school’s annual coronation, shown below.
The event included several speeches by members of the BHS student council as well as Principal Paul von Fischer. A video montage and individual presentations introduced each member of the royal court and showcased the students’ talents.
Coronation was followed by the traditional Burning of the “B” in the high school’s south parking lot, shown above. The BHS marching band performed several classic pep-band tunes – like “Crazy Train” – and the Bobcat school song as a Brookings firefighter lit the “B.”
Other activities set for this week include a Wednesday homecoming assembly, a cross-country invitational starting at 4 p.m. Thursday at Edgebrook Golf Course, a Friday afternoon pep assembly, a 7 p.m. Friday football game against Douglas-Box Elder with a BHS Band halftime performance at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, and a 2:30 p.m. Saturday volleyball match against Huron at the BHS Auxiliary Gym.
