Houses, vehicles shot with pellet gun

BROOKINGS – Brookings Police have received 16 reports of houses or vehicles being shot at by a pellet gun, Sgt. Joel Perry said.

The incidents have happened since Sept. 26 right up to Monday, Perry said, and have happened all over town.

“Thousands of dollars of damage,” Perry said, adding the damage was limited to broken windows.

“Some of the houses were hit (Monday) where people were home at the time heard the windows break,” he said, adding there have been no injuries.

“If anybody sees anything suspicious, give us a call,” Perry said.

Similar reports have come from Aurora recently, too.

Two homes in Aurora were damaged, apparently by a pellet gun, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The vandalism was reported at 9:05 a.m. Friday and occurred in the 400 block of Walnut Street and the 400 block of Willow Street in Aurora, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

“One home received $100 worth of damage to the siding of the home. The other home received approximately $3,100 worth of damage to a door and windows in the home,” Sebring said.

“The damage occurred sometime within the last three weeks,” he added.

The vandalism is under the investigation of the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
